Car-Train Collision Claims Nine Lives in Indonesia
Authorities said the vehicle, carrying nine occupants, was hit while the train was en route from Rantau Prapat to Medan. Police confirmed that all passengers died, with the driver initially surviving in critical condition before succumbing to injuries at the hospital.
North Sumatra Traffic Police Director Firman Darmansyah stated that the railway crossing where the crash occurred lacked automatic barriers. “Railway crossings without gates require extra vigilance. We appeal to motorists to stop, look, and listen before crossing to prevent similar tragedies,” Firman noted.
The incident underscores long-standing safety concerns over unprotected rail crossings in the region.
