Indonesia Landslide Death Toll Hits Forty-Eight

(MENAFN) The fatalities from a devastating landslide that engulfed Pasirlangu Village in Cisarua Sub-district, West Bandung Regency of Indonesia's West Java Province, on Saturday have climbed to 48, with 30 victims positively identified, local media outlets reported Tuesday.

Citing the West Java Police, local media indicated that the Disaster Victim Identification post stationed at the catastrophe zone has processed a total of 48 body bags recovered by the joint search and rescue operation. Of these, approximately 30 bodies have been successfully identified and released to their families.

Authorities stated that identification procedures for the remaining 18 bodies continue through data reconciliation, including comparisons of post-mortem and ante-mortem information, as the list of missing persons continues to be updated.

To expedite search operations, officials have deployed search-and-rescue dogs to support joint teams in discovering victims trapped beneath landslide rubble, especially in zones where heavy machinery cannot penetrate.

The Bandung City Office for Women's Empowerment and Child Protection has delivered trauma recovery services for children impacted by the landslide. The assistance included psychological support and the distribution of educational toys, medicines and clothing at evacuation shelters, aiming to help restore children's mental well-being.
